"Enjoy Every Sandwich"
Today's title refers to kind reader Tola's comment recalling Warren Zevon's snarky quote on how one should spend their last days. As always, Warren knew what he was talking about; he made the pithy observation as he was withering away from a rather nasty case of mesothelioma, so nasty it took our Warren away.
And, as well we should enjoy every sandwich. Preferably from Prêt à Manger, our favorite London luncheon haunt and a dining establishment of excellence, as deemed by my personal Foodie Queen, the wise and lovely Bakerina. Seen above are two egg salad and smoked salmon on whole wheat numbers with a fresh fruit salad, photographed at the "Pret" on Piccadilly.
Sandwiches and life itself are on my mind having returned from the UK to the news that my father is in the ICU. This shakes me to the core as it has previously. I'm told by some siblings that it doesn't look good. Then, I was told by the other sibs that he's going to be alright. I don't know what to think, so I've ceased all thinking for the day.
I will write about our trip, which was splendid. I want to tell you about the London Eye, which, on first glance, looks like the cheesiest thing going next to Madame Tussand's Wax Museum, but the ride on the Eye was so dazzling that cynical old me almost cried from the utter beauty of the view. I want to tell you about the most wonderful British Museum and staring at the Rosetta Stone while muttering, "There's the fucking Rosetta Stone, daaay-um!" I want to tell you about London everyday street fashion and that none of the London women wore cropped trousers, which annoyed me to no end because I packed several pairs. But, because I have a pathological need to blend into the crowd and not look a tourist, I kept the cropped trousers in my suitcase. I'd like to also tell you about the wonderful neighborhood of Notting Hill and the cute designer knock-off bag I got for the kiddo, the antique map the hubs bought and hanging out with the beautiful Tracy, my dollin stepkiddo.
But, until I can think again, I give to you, Dollin Readers, my pics on flickr...
...and my very best wishes.
Enjoy every sandwich. Really.
