Help equip 100 firefighters!
Blogger Grace here. Victoria emailed this report about her trip to the Gulf Coast this Tuesday and Wednesday. Please read on for more details on what the firefighters desperately need in this devastated area.
"Had a GREAT meeting with the fire chiefs, and two guys from handsonusa.org, so nice, got some great pics...I drove Chief Farrar down and Chief Davis drove a red official fire truck F350 single axle very very fast. I eventually caught up and kept up, but they thought it was funny, I guess. Firemen stuff.

He reported to us the amazing cooperative coordination between
agencies that you don't see. Fire trucks trapped in fire stations with
crushed roof, Navy Seabees helping volunteer fire departemnts free them
with cranes. My new friend, Chief Mixon, overseeing the fire marshall service and
serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast, places you haven't heard of, like Henderson
Point, where the eye came ashore...these folks have NO FIRE DEPT left, no gear, some
of the firemen, and there aren't terribly many down there, have been
completely wiped out. Three firemen families we know lost
everything, two with three kids each, and they are going to need help.
Back to equipment--one thing we can work on is outfitting
firemen, if we could get gear -standard firemen outfits- for 100
firemen, we could solve that problem for the firemen of the Mississippi coast.
That just doesn't seem like too much to me to ask our friends out
there, does it?"
Well, friends, if any one has a connection to the firefighting community, could you put the word out for these valued supplies and equipment? You can direct any leads to me, gracedb@yahoo.com and I will get right on it!
